Mayank Yadav demonstrated his ball-handling abilities in the most recent IPL 2024 match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). His three-wicket haul contributed significantly to LSG’s 28-run victory over RCB on Tuesday. Yadav’s ability to control length at this pace astounded RCB captain Faf du Plessis, despite his team’s defeat at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.

“It’s the new action you’ve never seen before, especially if there’s some pace behind it, that’s promising. It takes batters time to adjust to someone’s action and see how the ball comes out of the hand. So, obviously, pace is important, but what impressed me tonight his ability to control length and bowl with great discipline, so it’s a combination of pace and accuracy.” He said at the post-match presentation.

Following a sensational IPL debut in which he named Player of the Match. KL Rahul handed the 21-year-old the ball again. Yadav did not disappoint, consistently bowling over 150 kph. His speed and accuracy immediately put the RCB batting lineup on the back foot.

Yadav’s first strike came in the sixth over, when he dismissed dangerous Glenn Maxwell. His next victim was all-rounder Cameron Green, who beaten by sheer pace and the ball rattled his stumps.

However, Yadav’s best saved until last. With RCB’s Rajat Patidar looking settled at 29 off 21, Yadav bowled a short ball that caught Patidar’s top edge and went straight to Devdutt Padikal at deep square leg.

He understands that bowling 155 is not easy: KL Rahul

KL Rahul also expressed admiration for the young pacer for returning strong after missing the previous two seasons.

“But he’s been in Bombay with the physios, working hard. He understands that bowling 155 is difficult, and at such a young age, he has already suffered a few injuries. He takes care of his body professionally, which is admirable, and he has a wonderful personality. I enjoy seeing him bowl from about 20 yards behind the stumps; that’s where I’d like to be when he bowls,” KL said.

Yadav’s figures of 3/14 from four overs earned him a second consecutive Player of the Match award. However, the pacer remained grounded, stating his focus was firmly set on eventually representing India.

“This is just a start and my focus is on the main goal, to bowl with pace a lot of things are required (in terms of fitness). Diet, sleep, training, you need everything to be perfect if you want to bowl fast. So my focus is on dieting and recovery, ice baths and all. That is helping me at this time,” he said at the post-match presentation ceremony.
