Sourav Ganguly demands for balanced contest between bat and ball in IPL

Sourav Ganguly demands for balanced contest between bat and ball in IPL. Ganguly, director of cricket for the Delhi Capitals (DC), has expressed concern about the current IPL season’s lopsided bat-ball contest.

Sourav Ganguly, former India captain and current DC director of cricket, expressed concern about the lopsided contest between bat and ball in the ongoing IPL season. With flat pitches and new rules that favor batters, bowlers have been virtually ineffective as massive totals have become the norm.

This year’s IPL has been a run-fest, with several teams easily breaching the 200-run mark. Batters’ powerful hitting, combined with batter-friendly tracks, has resulted in bowlers being smashed around the park. The ‘Impact Player’ rule, which allows an additional batter to substitute, has exacerbated the problem.

Ganguly emphasized the need to regain some equality, “Not easy for the bowlers. They are being carted all over and that’s one area that needs to be looked at in the future, the balance between bat and ball,” Ganguly said at the pre-match press conference as quoted by India Today.

Have given away 400 runs but scored them too: Sourav Ganguly

The legendary opener cited SunRisers Hyderabad’s 125-run powerplay and Travis Head’s 32-ball 89 as examples of bowlers’ woes.”Our batting is also strong; we have conceded 400 runs but also scored them. “The wicket here is too good, batting friendly,” Ganguly explained.

The former batter is not the only one who has expressed concern about the bowlers; the legendary Sunil Gavaskar has previously advocated for larger boundaries.

Ganguly also announced that star batter David Warner and fast bowler Ishant Sharma would be unavailable for the upcoming match against the Mumbai Indians (MI) on April 27th at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

According to the points tally, the hosts are currently in sixth place with eight points, while the visitors are ninth with six points. Both teams are looking for a win to improve their standing and increase their chances of making the playoffs.
