Bengal cricketers are getting an English makeover. The British Council will train them to improve their verbal communication skills and etiquette as part of a partnership. The move comes at a time when young Indian cricketers are increasingly exposed to international players and coaches. As the number of leagues in the country and around the world grows. Avishek Dalmiya, president of the Cricket Association of Bengal, also hopes that the collaboration with the British Council. To empower young players from the state “both on and off the field.”

“Given their increased exposure to the media via the IPL and other platforms, we want to provide our players with better communication skills that will allow them to stand with more confidence and awareness,” Dalmiya said.
“We hope it will give them the opportunity not only to express themselves better, but also to take advantage of any international opportunities that may come their way.” The British Council will run two training programs for different levels of spoken English proficiency, allowing learners to speak confidently in a variety of situations and even improve impromptu conversations and extempore speeches.
British Council will concentrate on pronunciation, sentence construction, grammar, fluency of speech, connectors, transactional and interactive language.
British Deputy High Commissioner in Kolkata Nick Low described the initiative as “life-changing,” saying, “We look forward to working with our friends at CAB to help Bengal’s rich vein of cricket talent become the global icons of tomorrow.”
The start date and time of the training program will be determined based on the schedules of the players.
