Former England captain Michael Vaughan slammed Ravichandran Ashwin’s omission from the playing XI as “ridiculous.”

England captain Ben Stokes won the toss in the ongoing Test and chose to bowl. However, Shubman Gill out in the seventh over after being caught by James Anderson. Gill also scored 17 points on the strength of four boundaries.
India has deployed a four-man pace attack, with Shardul Thakur serving as the fast-bowling all-rounder. In a significant decision, India chose Ravindra Jadeja as the sole spinner instead of Ravichandran Ashwin.
Cheteshwar Pujara will open the innings, according to first-time captain Jasprit Bumrah, who revealed this during the toss. Pujara has also returned to the Test team after a string of runs in the English County Championships.
Moreover, Bumrah was name captain for the ongoing Test after Rohit Sharma tested positive for COVID-19 for the second time on Thursday morning. India currently leads the five-match Test series after victories at Lord’s and the Oval last year.
