Five members test positive for COVID-19 from the West Indies camp

Five members: After all remaining touring party members have been tested again, CWI and PCB will hold a meeting to determine the tour’s destiny.

The West Indies tour of Pakistan is in jeopardy after five more members of the team tested positive for Covid-19. Shai Hope, Akeal Hosein, and Justin Greaves are among the five, as are assistant coach Roddy Estwick and team medic Dr. Akshai Mansingh.

All three players will be sidelined for the remaining games – one T20I and three ODIs – and all five members who tested positive will be isolated for ten days, according to Cricket West Indies.

They won’t be able to join the main group unless their tests come back negative. CWI and PCB authorities will meet to evaluate if the tour can continue once all remaining members of the West Indies touring group have been tested again.

With Sheldon Cottrell, Roston Chase, and Kyle Mayers already ruled out due to positive Covid-19 tests, and Devon Thomas suffering a finger injury during the first T20I, the West Indies are now down to six players, raising doubts about the tour’s viability.

In their T20I and ODI squads, the West Indies now have only 14 players to choose from, with batting being particularly hard hit.

Among specialist batters, only Nicholas Pooran, Brandon King, Shamarh Brooks, and Darren Bravo are still available.

The official West Indies Cricket account tweeted:

“A further five members of the West Indies touring party have tested positive for COVID-19,”

The initial tests were conducted after the team’s arrival in Karachi on December 9. Yielded favorable results for Cottrell, Chase, and Mayers.

The three did not play in either of the two T20Is that have been played so far. In addition with Pakistan won both to take a 2-0 series lead. Moreover the third Twenty20 International will take place on Thursday, December 16.

Due to rest, injuries, or personal reasons, many of West Indies’ prominent players were unavailable for the tour. Including firstly, Kieron Pollard, Andre Russell, Shimron Hetmyer, Jason Holder, Evin Lewis, and Fabian Allen.
