After winning the race on Saturday, Hobart will host its first-ever Ashes Test, replacing Perth for the fifth and final match of the current series between Australia and England.

The Test will be a day-night pink-ball duel at the 20,000-capacity Blundstone Arena from January 14-18, after the Tasmanian capital defeated heavyweight challengers Sydney and Melbourne.

Perth’s hosting rights were revoked earlier this week due to the state of Western Australia’s strict Covid quarantine requirements, which required participants to quarantine for 14 days.

In Tasmania, there are no such rules.

Cricket Australia chief Nick Hockley said:

“The submissions we received were outstanding. And we had no doubt that each of the venues that took part would have hosted a wonderful event,”

“There was a range of considerations, including commercial. Logistical and operational factors and on the balance of these. The CA board agreed on Blundstone Arena being the most appropriate venue to host the fifth Ashes Test.”

Despite the fact that the Sydney Cricket Ground and Melbourne Cricket Ground are larger venues. Firstly, Prime Minister Scott Morrison and secondly, Sports Minister Richard Colbeck backed Hobart.

“I believe it would be excellent if there was one in Tasmania,” Morrison said last week, “especially since the Afghanistan Test clearly didn’t go forward for obvious reasons.”

However, It compensates for Hobart’s loss in November of what would have been Australia’s first-ever Test against Afghanistan. Which was postponed because the Taliban regime virtually barred women from participating in the sport.

Dominic Baker, the chief executive of Cricket Tasmania. Expressed his delight at what will be the largest sporting event ever held in the island state.

“Not just for Tasmanian cricket, but for Tasmania in general, this is a fantastic day,” he said.

Therefore, in Brisbane, the first Test is currently underway. The series then continues to Adelaide for a day-night Test. Before returning to Melbourne for the customary Boxing Day Test. Firstly, followed by Sydney and Hobart.
