The second season of Major League Cricket (MLC) is set to begin on July 5. However, this year it will compete with the Hundred, as both leagues overlap over six days in July. This could cause some international players to arrive in the UK late for the Hundred. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has been in talks with counties and hopes to reach an agreement this week.
According to their most recent proposal, each Hundred team’s host county (or MCC, for London Spirit) would receive 51%, with the ECB keeping the remaining 49%. By the end of the year, the ECB intends to sell its 49 percent stake and transfer the proceeds to English cricket. This measure is intended to ensure the financial survival of the Hundred and the English game as a whole.
“Who gets what out of that 49%? That’s where the discourse will be over the next few weeks. What is the best method to distribute that money across the 18 counties – or 19 if you add the MCC – in order to build a more sustainable, dynamic basis for the county system? ESPN Cricinfo quoted Stuart Cain, Warwickshire’s chief executive.

Crossover that has caused headaches for organizers
The Hundred’s group stage begins on July 23, and Major League Cricket (MLC) concludes on July 28, with knockout matches beginning July 24. Twelve overseas players contracted for the Hundred have already committed to MLC, with more expected before the league begins on July 5.
The majority of these players will remain in the United States until their respective MLC franchises leave the tournament. This crossover has caused scheduling and player availability issues. It also has an impact on both leagues as they strive to negotiate common player pools and fixture disputes.
