Former Pakistan: Virat Kohli announced his retirement as India’s T20I captain after the T20 World Cup, but the former Pakistan player believes there is more to the move than meets the eye.
There has been a changing of guard following India’s early withdrawal from the T20 World Cup. The team will embark on a new era with Rohit Sharma replacing Virat Kohli as India’s T20I captain and Rahul Dravid as its new coach.
Former Pakistan spinner Mushtaq Ahmed thinks that there are flaws in the current Indian team, which caused Kohli to resign as T20I captain
The 33-year-old announced his retirement from T20I captaincy following the T20 World Cup, but Mushtaq believes there is more to the move than meets the eye.
Mushtaq, who represented Pakistan in 52 Tests and 144 One-Day Internationals between 1989 and 2003, made another bold declaration when he claimed he doesn’t see Kohli playing T20Is for much longer. Kohli’s decision to step down as T20I captain, according to the former leg-spinner, is a sign that he is close to retiring from the shortest format.

Mushtaq, who is presently working at the PCB’s high-performance centre, said on the Geo News channel:
“When a successful captain says he wants to leave the captaincy. It means all is not well in the dressing room. I see two groups existing in the Indian dressing room right now… the Mumbai and Delhi groups,”
Finally, Mushtaq blamed the IPL for India’s failure to reach the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup. For the first time in eight years and eight ICC championships. Mushtaq cited exhaustion as a major factor, as well as the rigorous bio-bubble living. As reasons for India’s poor performance in the T20 World Cup.
