“The Next Five Years Are Scary…”: Why David Warner Is Glad He Is Nearing the End of His Career

“The Next Five Years Are Scary…”: Why David Warner Is Glad He Is Nearing the End of His Career. Australian opener David Warner, who recently signed a two-year contract with the Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League, has stated that the packed cricket schedule is becoming “difficult” for the players.

With the growing popularity of cricket around the world, several new tournaments and formats have emerged. Not only the International Cricket Council, but also the cricket boards of various countries such as India, Australia, England, and South Africa, are paying close attention to the growing market in order to maximize their profits. As a result of the consequences, players are now playing far more matches than they did ten or twenty years ago. The hectic cricket schedule is taking its toll on players’ mental and physical health.

To address the issue, players are either retiring from international cricket prematurely or opting out of a specific format. Recent examples include Ben Stokes’ retirement from One-Day Internationals and Trent Boult’s decision to opt out of New Zealand’s central contract.

In a similar vein, Australian opener David Warner stated that the upcoming cricket calendar is “scary.” He added that playing so many matches is “difficult” for players.

“The schedule for the next five years is terrifying. I’m glad I’m near the end because it’s extremely difficult. I’m obviously with my family; many men have young families as well. That will be difficult… It’s extremely difficult at this level to compete in 80-90 games per year… That’s a lot of cricket, isn’t it? “Warner told the media.

Warner agreed to terms with Sydney Thunder on a two-year contract on Sunday. He will join the Thunder after his international commitments expire at the end of the January Sydney Test, and he could be available for as many as five regular season games, including the summer’s second blockbuster Sydney Smash against the Sixers, as well as the finals.
