Manchester Originals defeated Southern Brave by 68 runs on Thursday in the ongoing The Hundred tournament at The Rose Bowl in Southampton. The right-handed batter reached fifty off 20 balls with a boundary towards backward square leg and then scored 14 off the next three balls.

In addition to Russell’s innings, Jos Buttler’s knock of 68 off 42 balls was critical in propelling Manchester Originals to a large total. Meanwhile, Philip Salt contributed 38 points off 22 balls to the team’s cause.

Salt shared 64 runs with Buttler for the first wicket before being caught by Jake Lintott. Wayne Madsen, the new batter, was run out for 9, but his dismissal invited Russell to the crease, and what followed was a barrage of boundaries.

In response, Southern Brave got off to a good start thanks to James Vince and Quinton de Kock, but they were unable to capitalize. Their specialist batters were unable to extend their innings, and the team was bundled out for 120 runs. Paul Walter was the standout bowler for Manchester Originals, taking 3 for 20, while Matthew Parkinson and Tristan Stubbs each took two wickets.
