Richard Thompson named the next chair of the England and Wales Cricket Board. Previously, Richard Thompson was the chairman of Surrey County Cricket Club.
Richard Thompson named the next chair of the England and Wales Cricket Board on Saturday (August 7). He will begin his five-year term on September 1. Thompson will succeed interim chief Martin Darlow, who has held the position since April after Ian Watmore stepped down in October 2021.
Richard, 55, was appoint after a thorough selection process. He is set to leave his current position as chair of the Surrey Cricket Club. Thompson was quite successful as Surrey’s chair, leading them to greater heights, and the notations committee had recommended Thompson to the ECB.

Thompson stat that he is honor to be the next chair of the ECB. Emphasize the importance of cricket in meeting so many people. He admired the game’s popularity in various parts of the country and was confident of taking the game to new heights in the country.
“I am enormously proud to be appoint Chair of the ECB at such an important time for cricket. ” Cricket has given me the opportunity to meet a wide range of amazing people. Their passion, endeavor and love for the game is what I want to harness. To take our game forward, to new heights across England & Wales,” Thompson said as quoted by News 18.
“Cricket should be the country’s most inclusive sport, welcoming people from all backgrounds and bringing communities together.” I will work tirelessly to restore trust in the game in those communities where we have fallen short. With the Men’s and Women’s Ashes on the horizon, the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in October, and recent successes in our red ball game, as well as hosting the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in 2026, we have a lot of work ahead of us,” he added.
