Mirwais Ashraf, a former all-rounder, has been named Afghanistan’s new cricket chief

Mirwais Ashraf: Mirwais Ashraf represented Afghanistan in 46 one-day internationals and 25 Twenty20 internationals before retiring in 2016.

Former all-rounder Mirwais Ashraf was named acting chairman of the Afghanistan Cricket Board by the Taliban on Wednesday, replacing Azizullah Fazli, who had only been in charge for two months.

The decision was made in response to demands made by national players during a meeting with Taliban officials in Abu Dhabi during the ongoing Twenty20 World Cup, according to Afghan media.

Taliban statement said:

“The prime minister of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has appointed Mirwais Ashraf as acting chairman of the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB),”

Afghanistan was eliminates from the Super 12 stage of the Twenty20 World Cup. After winning only two of their five Group 2 games, losing to Pakistan, India, and New Zealand.
