Mohammad Rizwan was at his best on Tuesday, October 10, when he perform one of the best ODI knocks of his career against Sri Lanka in Match 9 of the World Cup 2023. The wicketkeeper-batter hit 131* (121) in his innings. Blasting eight fours and three sixes as his side chased down the biggest score in World Cup history (345/4).
Rizwan batted through severe cramps and maintained his innings in great discomfort, desperate to lead his team to victory. His mental toughness helped Pakistan recover from a hazardous 37/2 position by participating in a key 176-run stand with Abdullah Shafique (113 off 103).
Against Dhananjaya de Silva in the 37th over of his innings, the 31-year-old produced a beautiful shot with his cramped feet. Rizwan weaved his way down the track, smacking De Silva over long-off for a six. After finishing his shot, the right-handed hitter collapsed and contorted his face in pain.
Everyone on the field was surprised as they hailed Rizwan’s commitment to lead his team to victory.

Rizwan recorded Highest score by a Pakistan wicketkeeper in ODIs
Rizwan not only helped Pakistan make history, but he also set the record for the highest individual score by a Pakistani wicketkeeper-batter in ODIs, surpassing Kamran Akmal’s 124 against the West Indies in Brisbane in 2005. Notably, it was also the highest chase in ODIs against Sri Lanka.
By chasing down 345 in 48.2 overs, Pakistan surpassed Ireland’s historic chase of 328 against England in Bengaluru during the 2011 World Cup and set a new mark for the biggest successful chase in World Cup history.
Earlier in the day, Kusal Mendis made history by scoring the fastest century by a Sri Lankan hitter in an ODI World Cup in only 65 balls. In addition, He went on to knock 122 off 77 balls, with aid from Sadeera Samarawickrama (108 off 99), as the combination helped Sri Lanka reach 344/9 in their allotted 50 overs.
