James Anderson will miss the first Ashes Test in Brisbane, but England insists it is not due to injury and is part of a management strategy to prepare him for next week’s day-night Test in Adelaide. England stated that there are no injury worries with the fast bowler and that he is fit to play.
Anderson, the third-highest Test wicket-taker, was never going to play all five Tests on such a tight timetable, and he has previously stated that only three of the matches are realistic.

Leaving England without a bowler in a match they lost, and there were doubts about his ability to return.
But since then, he’s taken 57 wickets in 17 Tests. And appeared in all of England’s home summer matches against New Zealand and India.
Anderson has a poor record at the Gabba, having taken seven wickets at 75.14 in four games. He has 16 wickets at 29.50 in Adelaide.
The ECB said in a statement:
“Jimmy is fit to play and is not injured,” “The objective was to have him ready for the second Test in Adelaide, with five Tests in six weeks.”
“With the short build-up we’ve had so far on the tour, both he and the management didn’t want to risk him playing following what occurred at Edgbaston. In 2019 when he broke down on the first morning.”
There’s still a potential England will be missing Anderson. And Stuart Broad for the first Test, with the latter having missed most of the domestic season due to a calf injury.
The fast bowlers’ lead-in has been affected by the disrupted preparations caused by bad weather in Queensland
Broad’s participation may be contingent on England’s use of specialist spinner Jack Leach. With Ben Stokes back in the lineup, they’ll be able to have a balanced attack. But it’s unclear how much Stokes will be able to bowl after not bowling competitively since July.
Ollie Robinson and Mark Wood have yet to play Test cricket in Australia. While Chris Woakes has averaged 49.50 in four games, but Buttler is confident in their ability to capture 20 wickets.
“The men are here because we are confident,” he remarked. “There are some incredible performers. Broad and Anderson, of course, have been outstanding performers for a long time. And will play pivotal roles in the series. We’ll be confident in whichever XI we put on the pitch.”
