Tom Moody scrutinizes Punjab Kings’ poor batting performance against GT

Tom Moody scrutinizes Punjab Kings’ poor batting performance against GT. “The way the players got out against spin was the most frustrating for me,” said Moody.

Former Australian cricketer Tom Moody recently spoke out against the Punjab Kings’ batting performance in their recent IPL (Indian Premier League) match against the Gujarat Titans. On Sunday, April 21, both teams met at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur for the tournament’s 37th game.

The Punjab Kings batted first in the match, but they failed to make an impact in the opening innings. Same Curran and Prabhsimran Singh led the way for the team, scoring 20 and 35 runs respectively. Jitesh Sharma scored 13 runs, Harpreet Singh added 14 runs, and Harpreet Brar scored 29 runs in 12 deliveries to help Punjab score 142 in the first innings.

Tom Moody criticised Punjab Kings’ poor batting claiming that the team struggled against Gujarat Titans’ spin attack of Noor Ahmed, Rashid Khan, and Sai Kishore.

“They have very poor spin management. 7/68 off-spin was a complete disaster. The way the players dealt with spin was the most frustrating for me. It appeared reckless. “I understand that you need to be proactive and busy,” Moody told ESPNcricinfo.

“Yes, GT have a good spin attack, but they would have gone into this contest knowing that would have been the challenge. It looked like a complete meltdown,” he added.

Punjab have themselves to blame: Wasim Jaffer

Furthermore, former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer came forward to say that the Punjab Kings only have themselves to blame. The former cricketer reflected on opener Prabhsimran Singh’s performance and how he could have improved his innings further.

“Punjab has themselves to blame. Prabhsimran got them off to a good start, but he should have gone on to score more points. I thought he should have accepted a lot of responsibility; when you have so many players who are out of form and not scoring runs, you get days like this,” Jaffer said.
