Shreyas Iyer hits the highest six of the ODI World Cup 2023. Iyer hit a half-century in 36 balls.
Shreyas Iyer of India struck the longest six of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 during Match 33 between India and Sri Lanka on Thursday, November 02 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Following Shubman Gill’s dismissal in the 30th over, the 28-year-old went in to bat at number one. Iyer wasted little time settling in and attacked the bowlers right away.
On the fourth ball of Kasun Rajitha’s 36th over, he hit the longest six of the competition thus far. The right-handed hitter stood tall on a wide pitch and smacked it down the line, sending the ball 106 meters. He surpassed Australia’s Glenn Maxwell, who hit a 104-metre six against New Zealand in Dharamsala.

Notably, Iyer previously hit a 101-metre six against Afghanistan in Delhi. Which was the tournament’s then-longest six. The 28-year-old went on to register his second half-century of the tournament off just 36 balls after coming in to bat under duress because to his recent poor scores. In his innings, he also batted brilliantly, scoring 82 (56) with three fours and six sixes.

Earlier in the day, after being called in to bat first, India’s skipper Rohit Sharma lost his stumps against Dilshan Madushanka on the second delivery of the over. Following his demise, Shubman Gill (92 off 92) and Virat Kohli (88 off 94) anchored the innings with a mammoth 189-run second-wicket partnership.
India reached a tremendous total of 357/8 in their allocated 50 overs thanks to their efforts. Dilshan Madushanka was the pick of his side’s bowlers, taking 5/80 in 10 overs.
