In their first innings, New Zealand scored 185/5 from 20 overs. Kane Williamson (47 off 33 balls), Devon Conway (43 off 29 balls), and all-rounder James Neesham (33* off 15 balls) all contributed significantly to the Kiwis’ victory. With the exception of a 62-run stand between openers Martin Guptill (16) and Conway, the Kiwis were unable to put up big partnerships.
Medium tempo West Indies’ leading bowler was Odean Smith, who took 3/32. Jason Holder and Obed McCoy each took one wicket.
West Indies lost wickets at regular intervals while chasing 186 runs, reaching 5/79 at one point. The Windies’ leading scorer was Shamarh Brooks (42). Romario Shepherd (31) and Odean Smith (27) combined for a 58-run stand when Windies were 7/114. They attempted to bring their team across the finish line but fell 13 runs short.
With 3/19, Santner was New Zealand’s best bowler. Trent Boult, Tim Southee, Lockie Ferguson, and Ish Sodhi all claimed one wicket.
Santner was named ‘Man of the Match’ for his performance with the ball.
