Sunil Gavaskar criticizes senior players: “You don’t take rest during IPL, but rest while playing for India.” Gavaskar stated, “I genuinely believe that the BCCI needs to look into this concept of rest.”

Sunil Gavaskar, a former India captain and a seasoned cricket player, has questioned why senior Indian players rest for international matches but not for the Indian Premier League. The BCCI’s decision-making process called into question after several Indian athletes. Including Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Jasprit Bumrah, were rested in some of the most recent series.

The selectors attempted to lighten Kohli and Rohit’s load by giving them breaks during different series because they are struggling with their batting and are going through a difficult time in their careers. Since Shikhar Dhawan will be in charge of the team, Sharma and Kohli, along with Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah, and Hardik Pandya, have once again been rested for the ODI series against the West Indies.

The cricketers, on the other hand, were chastise by Gavaskar for taking breaks during the shortest format of the game because, in his opinion, a 20-over innings is not physically taxing.

“See, I disagree with players taking breaks (during India matches). In no way. You represent India in the game. You rest while playing for India, not while watching the IPL. I disagree with that. You must compete for India. Don’t bring up rest. In Twenty20 cricket, an innings only has 20 overs. Your body doesn’t suffer in any way from that. While playing in Test matches is physically and mentally taxing, T20 cricket presents less of a challenge, according to Gavaskar on Sports Tak.

A line must be drawn if Indian cricket is to become more professional: Gavaskar

The renowned Indian cricketer continued by saying that the BCCI should enhance its strategy for player rest. Noting that those who are assign to the Grade A category earn sizable sums of money. Gavaskar suggested that cricketers who frequently take breaks have their contracts reduced to a lower grade in order to make the BCCI run more professionally.

“I genuinely believe that the BCCI needs to investigate this idea of rest. All of the cricketers in Grade A have been given very generous contracts. Each match results in payment to them. Tell me if you know of any businesses where the CEO and MD enjoy such long vacations. I believe a line needs to be drawn if Indian cricket is to become more professional. Reduce your guarantees if you want to feel rested. You then take a nap because you don’t feel like playing. Whoever claims that I don’t want to play for the Indian team is absurd, though. Because of this, I disagree with the idea,” Gavaskar continued.
