Rohit Sharma to skip entire New Zealand Test series, Virat Kohli opts out of the first game

Rohit Sharma: Kohli will take a sabbatical after opting out of the three-match T20 series commencing November 17 in Jaipur, and vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane will lead the side in the first Test in Kanpur.

As a “mentally and physically fatigued” Team India gets down to workload management during the home assignment, Rohit Sharma, India’s newly-appointed T20 captain, will be rested from the two-match Test series against New Zealand, while Virat Kohli will miss the opening match.
Kohli will take a sabbatical after opting out of the three-match T20 series commencing November 17 in Jaipur, and vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane will lead the side in the first Test in Kanpur.

According to a reputable BCCI source, the squad was finalized during a meeting of the selection committee on Thursday, but no formal announcement has yet been made.
Rishabh Pant, the wicketkeeper-batsman, and the pace combination of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami will also miss both Tests, which will be contested in Kanpur and Mumbai, respectively.

After guiding the squad in the T20 series, Rohit Sharma will take a rest. The tests are set to begin in Kanpur on November 25.

In Pant’s absence, Wriddhiman Saha will take over as the series‘ first goalie. With KS Bharath serving as the series’ second keeper.

This year, he was one of five standby players for the home Test series against England.

The rest of the roster is made up of the usual suspects. With Hanuma Vihari, Cheteshwar Pujara, and Mayank Agarwal anticipated making an appearance.

The 39-year-old was the Hyderabad team’s fielding coach and has previously worked with the India A side.
