During Sri Lanka’s ongoing first Test match against the West Indies at the Galle International Stadium, Dhananjaya de Silva put forth a strong batting performance. Despite a second-day score of 61 from 95 balls, the all-rounder was removed in an unusual manner. He ended up hitting the balls off the stumps while attempting to avoid being bowled out.
Shannon Gabriel ended the 30-year-time old’s in the crease in the first few minutes of Day 2 on Monday. The bowler bowled a length ball outside off in the 95th over of the innings, which De Silva tried to defend on the back foot.
However, he was caught off guard by the delivery’s quick bounce, and in an attempt to reverse the ball’s path in a panic, he ended up striking it on the leg-stump.

On Day 2, Sri Lanka managed to score 386 in their first innings. Dimuth Karunaratne, the captain, was in superb form, hitting 147 off 300 balls. He also racked up 15 fours.
Dinesh Chandimal, meanwhile, contributed with the bat, scoring 45 runs off 83 deliveries.
West Indies’ Roston Chase was in fine form, capturing five wickets.
West Indies reached 113 for six in 42 overs on Day 2 after the host side’s first innings. Before falling to Ramesh Mendis, opener Kraigg Brathwaite hammered 41 off 115 balls. West Indies will look to build some momentum on Day 3 with Kyle Mayers (22) and Jason Holder (1) in the crease.
In the meantime, Mendis has been in excellent form for the hosts, taking three wickets on Day 2.
