Brian Lara feels upbeat about the West Indies’ chances ahead of the blockbuster India series. The first Test match between the Windies and India will take place on Wednesday, July 12 at Windsor Park in Dominica.
Brian Lara, West Indies’ performance coach, has stated that his team has been working in the correct direction ahead of the important series against India. Notably, the two teams will compete in a multi-format series beginning on July 12 that will include two Tests, three ODIs, and five T20Is.
The inaugural red-ball encounter between the Windies and India will take place on Wednesday, July 12, at Windsor Park in Dominica. The Test series will kick off the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle for both sides in 2023-25. Lara praised Team India’s ability ahead of the first Test, but also stated that the Windies had a good chance under Kraigg Brathwaite’s leadership.
“We have two very important Test matches against India that will kick off our two-year cycle (WTC). ” They are one of the best teams in the world, both at home and away. In terms of where we started the camp and where we are now, I believe the boys are on the correct track. The first match is just a few days away in Dominica, but it’s a young group capably led by Kraigg Brathwaite. ” Lara quote as saying by the Indian Express.

It is worth mentioning that the Windies selection committee named two uncapped left-handed hitters in the set-up, as Kirk McKenzie and Alick Athanaze are both expected to make the playing XI for the next series. Lara, who is overjoyed with their inclusion, noted that the two kids have the correct mindset and a willingness to learn, which would serve them well in international cricket.
“I believe that some of the guys can come into their own in this series; it’s a tough opponent, but I believe that’s the only way we can get the most out of them.” Great capable players, young and, of course, you would have preferred if they had a lot more first-class experience, but looking at their style of play and mentality, I believe they have what it takes to perform at the greatest level,” he continued.
“It may take some time, but obviously as an international cricketer, no matter what age you enter, you have to learn very, very quickly.” And I believe they have that mentality of wanting to learn and (being) willing to listen,” Lara said.
