Ahmed Raza has retired from international cricket. With his exceptional leadership abilities, he assisted the squad in qualifying for the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia.
Former UAE captain Ahmed Raza has retired from international cricket after 17 years of service. Upon his retirement, he plans to join the UAE’s coaching staff, continuing his devotion to the nation’s cricket. In T20 Internationals, he is the UAE’s most successful captain, having led the side to victory in 18 of 27 T20I matches.
Raza remarked on Twitter “It is with great joy that I announce my retirement from all forms of cricket. ” Raza wrote. ” After considerable consideration, I think now is the appropriate moment to retire from the game that has given me so much love and respect over the previous 17 years.”
Raza took a minute to thank everyone who supported him along the way
“One of my greatest honors has been to represent and lead my nation in the magnificent sport of cricket. I owe a debt of gratitude to the Board, my colleagues, coaches, selectors, and, most significantly. My late father, who encouraged and enabled me to pursue my goal to the utmost. My mother, siblings, and friends were all present throughout the ordeal. Finally, and most significantly, to my wife, Mehreen, who has been my most steadfast supporter over the last few years. “Raza put pen to paper.
He also thanked veteran Pakistan bowler Aqib Javed for grooming him into a professional player. Improving his talents and so contributing to his success.
“Although many people have helped me during my career. I’d want to thank Aqib Javed in particular for his contribution to my achievement and turning a novice into a comprehensive professional.” Raza said.

Taking the UAE to the T20 World Cup is always a major accomplishment: Ahmed Raza
Raza has been with the squad through many ups and downs during the course of the game, during which the team has made great development. Raza has witnessed numerous momentous occasions in UAE cricket history. While reflecting on his 17-year cricket career, Raza said that it was difficult to single out any of those events as the most meaningful, but that guiding his country to the T20 World Cup in Australia was a noteworthy success.
“It’s difficult to identify a specific moment over the course of 17 years, but taking the UAE to the T20 World Cup will always be a great achievement of mine,” Raza said in his retirement letter.
Raza appeared in over 108 international games across many forms during his international career. From 2014 and 2022, he also captained the squad in 56 limited-over matches, winning 32 with a 66% victory percentage. His second tenure as captain began in 2019 when he led the UAE in the 2019 T20 World Cup Qualification event. He led the squad at a period when it was beleaguered by a corruption scandal that resulted in the suspension of seven players. In August 2022, he was replaced as UAE’s T20 International captain by CP Rizwan.
