Reports claiming BYJU owes the BCCI money are false: Divya Gokulnath, co-founder. The new agreement between BCCI and BYJU is being draft but has yet to be signed.
According to some reports, India’s jersey sponsor BYJU’s owed the Board of Control for Cricket in India a whopping INR 86.21 crore (BCCI). However, in a recent development, BYJU’s co-founder Divya Gokulnath state that the reports claiming the company’s pending dues are false.
BYJU and the BCCI extended their collaboration in April of this year until the end of the ODI World Cup, which India will host in 2023. BYJU’s agreed to give the Indian board a 10% raise over their previous agreement. Which result in the contract being extend. However, it later reveal that BYJU’s had failed to pay the BCCI INR 86.21 crore and was in danger of losing the shirt sponsorship rights.
“The bizarreness of the fake news story that we had not paid our BCCI dues only match by the urgency with which’media’ organizations’reported’ it.” Even in this day and age of post-truth and post-reporting, we expect real journalists to conduct basic fact checks and not be sway by hearsay and concocted stories by vested parties. BCCI and BYJU have yet to sign their extended contract.
The co-founder of BYJU’s comments were link to a news article by The Times of India. According to sources, a new agreement between BCCI and BYJU is being negotiate but has not yet signed. The outstanding funds are for the number of games played by India after the deal expire. As a result, the money owe can only be paid when the transaction is complete.
BCCI officials had been complaining about how unfair and inaccurate press disclosures had harmed their own interests. According to top BCCI sources who confirm to TOI that BYJU’s had clear all dues in accordance with the contract in place, the cricket board is aware of a bank guarantee from BYJU’s that far exceeds the pending sum as report in the media.
