India’s stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah bludgeoned hapless Stuart Broad for 29 runs. Breaking the world record for most runs off a single over in Test cricket by one run. Lara held the world record for 18 years after hitting South African left-arm spinner Robin Peterson for 28 runs in a Test match in 2003-04, including four fours and two sixes off six legal deliveries.
Former Australia player George Bailey also scored 28 in an over, but he trailed Lara in boundary count.
Broad, who hit for six sixes in an over by Yuvraj Singh in the first World T20 in 2007, gave away 35 runs in the 84th over of India’s first innings in the fifth rescheduled Test here. There were six extra runs, including five wides and one no-ball.

Test batting record: The Indian captain was unbeaten on 31 off 16 balls, hitting four boundaries and two sixes.
It began with a mistimed hook for a boundary, and in frustration, Broad bowled a bouncer for five wides.
The following ball was dug in short again, and another top-edge gave Bumrah seven runs, including a no-ball.
The following three balls were hit for boundaries in different directions: one through mid-on, one through fine leg, and one through mid-wicket.
To add insult to injury, Bumrah delivered the proverbial “Bazball” (English cricket’s current buzzword emphasizing the attacking intent ushered in by new coach Brendon McCullum) with a six over deep midwicket.
India finished their first innings with 416 runs, thanks to centuries from Rishabh Pant (146) and Ravindra Jadeja (104).
