Rain forced an early lunch and a delayed start on Day 1 of the rescheduled 5th Test between England and India at Edgbaston in Birmingham, and rain is expected to disrupt play again on Day 2. According to Accuweather, Birmingham will be partly cloudy with showers during the first hour of scheduled play and then remain cloudy. Showers are expected to return at 3 p.m. local time (7:30 pm IST). Play was delayed by 30 minutes on Friday, and the same could happen again on Saturday if the game is delayed by rain.

On Day 1 of IND vs ENG, India were 98/5, but a whirlwind century from Rishabh Pant, with help from Ravindra Jadeja, helped the visitors reach 338/7 at Stumps.
Pant and Jadeja put on a 222-run stand, with Pant scoring 146 off 111 deliveries.
It was his fifth Test century, and his fourth away from home.
He hit 19 fours and four sixes to put the English bowlers under pressure.
While Pant was dismissed by Joe Root, Jadeja finished unbeaten on 83.
Earlier, England won the toss and chose to bat.
Shubman Gill and Cheteshwar Pujara were taken out by James Anderson. Pujara started in place of Rohit Sharma, who was ruled out due to COVID-19.
Before Anderson got rid of Shreyas Iyer, Matthew Potts sent Hanuma Vihari and Virat Kohli packing.
Following Pant’s dismissal, Shardul Thakur was also dismissed, with Ben Stokes taking his first wicket of the match.
When play resumes on Day 2, Jadeja and Mohammed Shami will bat again.
