Sumit lost 0-5 in the pre-quarterfinals against Ukraine’s reigning world and European champion; Oleksandr Khyzhniak, while Anamika lost 1-4 to Algeria’s Roumaysa Boualem in the last-eight round on Wednesday.
So far, Nandini (+81kg) has ensured India’s first medal by advancing to the semifinals; with a dominant win against Valeriya Axenova of Kazakhstan in the last-eight stage on Tuesday.

Over 450 boxers from 36 countries compete in the event, including traditional heavyweights Kazakhstan; Italy, Russia, France, and Ukraine, where Russia launched a military operation on Thursday despite international calls for caution.
“We haven’t see any influence from the fighting so far.” The weigh-ins were complete this morning; and Ukrainian boxers competed yesterday and today,” a member of the Indian contingent informed PTI over the phone.
The competition was attend by a 17-member Indian contingent, consisting of seven men and ten women.
In the previous event, Deepak Kumar and also Naveen Boora both won silver and bronze medals for India.
