Virat Kohli: Stepped down as RCB captain because he needed some space.
Virat Kohli, the Royal Challengers Bangalore captain who stood down after the 2021 IPL season, says he made the decision to allow himself some space and manage his workload. Kohli confirmed his departure from the IPL after stating that the T20 World Cup will be his final competition as India’s captain in the shortest format.
He was later relieved of his ODI captaincy before stepping down from the five-day leadership job.
“I’m not the type to hold on to things longer than necessary. Even though I know I can do a lot more, if I’m not going to enjoy the process, I’m not going to do it,” Kohli, one of the modern-day greats, said on surrendering the captain’s armband on “The RCB Podcast.”
People find it tough to understand what a cricketer thinks when making such judgments, according to the former RCB and India captain.
“Because it’s impossible for others to understand your choices until they’ve been in your shoes.” People have their own expectations from the outside. Oh! What happened to cause that? Kohli, who is about to play his 100th Test, continued, “We are very stunned.”

“There was actually nothing at all,” Kohli said, referring to all of the conversations that people had regarding his decision. I keep my life simple and straightforward; when I needed to make a decision, I did so and proclaimed it.
“I didn’t want to ponder and think about it for another year.” That would have had no effect on me or the environment in which I live. To me, the quality of life is extremely important. And cricket’s quality is something that I place a high value on.
