Graeme van Buuren has become a British citizen, which means he will be eligible to play for Gloucestershire as a local player starting in the 2022 season. In 2021, the Gloucestershire allrounder was compelled to play as an overseas player.

Due to changes in registration status caused by the United Kingdom’s exit from the European Union, van Buuren had to apply for indefinite leave to remain as a path to British citizenship, but bureaucratic delays caused by Covid-19 left him as an overseas player last season.
Gloucestershire had already signed contracts with other foreign players, van Buuren was limited to six County Championship appearances.
Four Blast appearances, and eight Royal London Cup appearances last summer, with only two allowed in each competition’s starting XI.
He has now been awarded citizenship, allowing him to return to the local league next season.
Graeme Van Buuren said on the club’s social media accounts:
“It’s been hard on and off the field, but there’s always a light at the end of the tunnel,”
“I’m a local, a British citizen today, as of November 26, 2021.” That means I’ll be able to play for Gloucestershire as a local player in the future, which means no more heartbreak and pain for me.
“Not just for me, but also for my family, this is a huge relief. I’m excited to start the new season and contribute to the squad.”
