And did not bat in the short chase after being struck by Ben Stokes on the second day. X-rays revealed he had no broken bones, and Australia was confident enough in his fitness to name their starting lineup the day before the match.

During a net session on Tuesday evening, he appeared uneasy and only faced throwdowns rather than bowlers.

A painkilling injection into the ribs remained an option for David Warner, according to Pat Cummins, but it was not part of the plan before the match. David Warner was also expected to be able to take his spot in the slips.

“Davey wouldn’t be playing if he didn’t believe he could be as good as normal,” Cummins said. “I don’t think he’ll bat any differently than usual.”

Meanwhile, Richardson was anticipated to fill in for Hazlewood, who was sidelined due to a side injury sustained at the Gabba.

In 2019, he made his Test debut against Sri Lanka before suffering a catastrophic shoulder injury that necessitated two surgeries.

Pat Cummins remarked:

“If we look back to 2019, he played two really fantastic Tests and was on the verge of an Ashes series and a World Cup before his shoulder injury,”

“David Warner worked extremely hard, has had a fantastic start to the year for WA, and we believe he’s on fire.”

“He’s a great player who can nip the ball and swing it both ways. He’s a little quicker than you realize. Around 140 kph is possible. He’s bowled 20 overs for 20 runs in Shield cricket on occasion. Josh leaves a large hole to fill, but we’re convinced Jhye will fill it right now.”
