Will Young of New Zealand will play for Northamptonshire in the 2022 county season. Since making his international debut a year ago, the New Zealand batter has wowed.
Subject to international obligations, Young, the 29-year-old top-order hitter, will be available for most of the LV= Insurance County Championship and Royal London Cup.
Will Young said:
“I see it as a terrific opportunity for me to learn more about UK conditions while also contributing as much as possible to the Northamptonshire environment,”
“Within the team, there appears to be a lot of skill and talent. This summer, I intend to contribute to the club’s success as much as possible.”
During Durham’s 2021 Championship season, Young hit two centuries in four outings. He has 12 hundred and a 42.26 average in first-class matches.

Young has been a standout for New Zealand since making his debut in December of last year, and he recently returned from a tour of India, where he scored a career-high 89 in the first Test. In June, he also scored 82 runs in New Zealand’s second-Test victory over England at Edgbaston.
The club’s biggest recruitment aim, according to Northamptonshire head coach John Sadler, is to sign a quality batter. In 2021, Northants finished seventh in their Royal London Cup group and bottom of the Blast’s North Group.
They will compete in Division One of the Championship next season, having achieved promotion in 2019 before the Covid-19 pandemic prompted modifications to the domestic structure in the previous two seasons.
John Sadler said:
“We feel that he’s a fantastic choice for us; he wants to come here and improve his own game while also adding value to our team,”
“He’s a world-class athlete. He’s an international player who performed admirably in the Test matches last week, but we’ve been keeping an eye on him since the conclusion of last season.”
Before the English summer, Young will join the Northamptonshire squad.
