In what may be described as a story of support and commitment, Laduma Devi, mother of young cricketer Akash Deep, affectionately referred to herself as his ‘partner in crime’ in her son’s cricketing career. Despite his father’s wish for his kid to become a government employee, Laduma recognized and valued her son’s strong interest in cricket.
She helped him pursue the sport and allowed him to play discreetly. Akash’s goal reached new heights with a stunning debut in the Ranchi Test, where he took three wickets on the first day. Rahul Dravid, India’s coach, presented him with the coveted cap, which was a moving occasion shared with his family, particularly his mother.
“His father always wanted him to be a government officer, but cricket was his actual passion, and I was his partner in crime. I would covertly send him to play cricket to help him achieve his dream. During that time, if someone learned your son was playing cricket, they would say, “He is spoilt and will become a rogue.” But we had faith in him and did not lose up, despite losing my malik (husband) and beta (son) in six months,” Devi told India Today.

Akash paid respect to his late father by dedicating his excellent debut performance in Ranchi against England. The bowler, visibly touched, described his debut in Test cricket as an extremely emotional experience. He claimed that the deaths of his father and brother in the same year forced him to reconsider his life, finally leading him to select cricket as his route. His mother showed great pride, saying that if his father and brother were still living today, they would be overjoyed. She considered herself the world’s proudest mother.
“If his father and brother were living today, they would be filled with delight. This is the most unforgettable day in one’s life, and only a select handful are fortunate enough to witness it. I’m the proudest mother in the planet. Sab bolte hain, padhoge likhoge banoge nawab; kheloge, kudoge banoge Kharab. Yeh ulta ho gaya. (They say that those who study become kings, while those who play get spoiled. But it’s the contrary in our case),” she explained.
