Simon Doull examines India’s performance in ICC events from 2013

Simon Doull examines India’s performance in ICC events from 2013. India’s most recent ICC victory came in the Champions Trophy in 2013, led by MS Dhoni.

The Indian cricket team has entered every ICC event in the last decade as one of the top challengers for the trophy. However, the rub of the green eluded them at critical points following their ICC Champions Trophy title in 2013. With another ICC tournament, the 2023 ODI World Cup, starting next month, experts are attempting to identify the reasons for India’s drought on the big stage. Similarly, Simon Doull recently shared his thoughts on the subject.

The former New Zealand fast bowler believes that Indian players do not play fearlessly. Doull believes that the Indian players are overly obsessed about their stats and the consequences of failing to perform. He did, however, agree that the country is not short in talent.

“Their problem is fearless cricket.” They don’t play enough daring cricket. They play statistics-driven cricket and are very concerned with their stats. “And that is the one area of their batting side where I am concerned,” Doull stated on Sky Sports.

“They have all the talent and some of, if not the, best players in the world.” But it is about playing brave cricket at the appropriate time of the competition, and I believe that is what has let them down in previous World Cups. They don’t take risks because they are afraid of what might be said, what might be printed, or what someone might question them about their position on the team. “That’s the one thing I’m concerned about,” he added.
