India names injury substitutes for the South Africa series. Mohammad Shami and Deepak Hooda have been picked as substitutes for the three-match T20I series against South Africa.

The BCCI announced in a statement that both Hooda and Shami will miss the three games against the visitors. Hooda is out due to a back ailment, and Shami is still recovering from COVID-19. Hardik Pandya and Bhuvneshwar Kumar have both gone to the NCA for rehabilitation.

South Africa Series: India names injury substitutes

Indian selectors have replaced them with spinner Umesh Yadav, batter Shreyas Iyer, and all-rounder Shahbaz Ahmed.

Shami also did not play in the 2-1 T20I series triumph against Australia, and was replaced by Yadav for all three games. Yadav took part in India’s opening match at Mohali, which they lost.

The series will also be a significant chance for Iyer, who is on India’s T20 World Cup reserve list. A strong series will put him in the running to make the squad in case a batter is injured.
