Mark Waugh says of a player who could pose a threat to David Warner in Pakistan.

Former Australia batter Mark Waugh has chosen the player most likely to worry David Warner as Australia prepares to travel Pakistan for the first time in 24 years next month.

In the five-match Ashes Test series earlier this year, Australia batsman David Warner had a good showing against England. In five matches, he scored 273 runs at an average of just over 34. Warner, on the other hand, had trouble coping with England’s quicks, particularly Mark Wood.

Former Australia hitter Mark Waugh suggested the seasoned opening batsman might not have a smooth outing in the sub-continent nation. As Australia prepares to tour Pakistan for the first time in 24 years next month.

Mark Waugh says of a player who could pose a threat to David Warner in Pakistan.

Given the Pakistan pacer’s ability to move the ball away from the batter, taking on Shaheen Afridi “will be a huge test” for Warner, according to Mark Waugh.

“I don’t think Warner has looked as at ease against quick bowling in recent times – Mark Wood obviously rattled him, and Shaheen Afridi will be a major test for him,” the 56-year-old said.

“It’s a different angle for him, like a right-arm fast moving around the wicket – do you play the ball or do you leave the ball?”

Shaheen Afridi can angle in and take the ball away from David Warner, so he poses that query,” he continued.

Then, if one continues straight on, he risks bowleds and lbws. “It’s clearly a different challenge,” remarked the former Australia national selector.
