Rohit Sharma has been ruled out of the Test phase of India’s tour of South Africa, With an injury to his left hamstring. As a replacement, Gujarat opener Priyank Panchal has been added to India’s team.

Before the India team underwent quarantine in Mumbai, where they will fly to South Africa later this week.
This is Rohit’s second major tour in the previous 12 months that has been hampered by injury. He only played in the third and fourth Tests of India’s 2020-21 tour of Australia, having missed the first two owing to a hamstring injury sustained during the IPL.
Rohit’s absence will be a blow to India’s preparations since he is the biggest Test run-getter in 2021 and one of just two batsmen with a 40-plus average from 10 or more innings (the other being Rishabh Pant).

With five hundred, including a Player-of-the-Match-winning 127 in India’s win at The Oval in September.
Apart from Panchal, the other openers in India’s Test team are KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal.
Panchal’s stock has risen dramatically after his breakout Ranji Trophy season in 2016-17 when he led the team in runs with 1310 in 17 innings at an average of 87.33.
That season, he set a new first-class record with an undefeated 314 against Punjab. Those runs were part of a historic run for Gujarat, who won the Ranji Trophy for the first time. Panchal took over as Gujarat captain after Parthiv Patel retired last year.
