Rohit Sharma: I want middle order to prepare for ’10 for 3′ situations

Rohit Sharma, India’s white-ball middle order should be prepared for instances where the team is reduced to “10 for 3.“

India has lost in the final of the 2017 Champions Trophy, the semi-final of the 2019 ODI World Cup, and the group stage of the 2021 T20 World Cup in the last four years. One recurring element has been the team’s inability to recover from early wicket losses.

Rohit was questioned on YouTube show Backstage with Boria during the New Zealand Test series that he missed if he had been able to figure out what went wrong in those games.

Rohit Sharma admitted:

“To be honest,” “not really.” “I believe it was in the first half of the game that we lost the game.” So that’s something I’ll remember and make sure we’re ready for the worst. When the team is 10 for 3, we must prepare. That’s how I want to go on and convince the youngsters that if you’re 10 for 2 or 3 [in a T20I], you can earn 180, 190, or even more.

“I’d like the guys to prepare in the same way.” Let’s imagine we’re in the semi-final and we’re down 10-2 after two overs. What should we do? What is the strategy? I’d like to put us in that situation again and watch how we react. We have a few games before the World Cup to put that to the test. Because there is a resemblance between all three games we lost – two Pakistan games and one New Zealand game in three ICC tournaments – if you look closely.

“I appreciate that the bowling was of extraordinary quality at the moment. But it has happened three times.” I’m hoping this isn’t the fourth time it’s happened. So, hopefully, we’ll be prepared for that, keeping that situation in mind as we move forward. And see how we can strategize – if we can simply counterattack from the first pitch, whoever is on the mound.

With five IPL victories, he is the most successful captain in the league’s history. And he has previously captained India in the absence of Virat Kohli.

“A captain is there to ensure that the proper players are playing. The correct combination is playing, and obviously a few tactical things that you need to look after,” he stated of his leadership attitude.

India’s white-ball batting has mostly focused around Rohit and Kohli in recent years. And Rohit had “no doubt” he’d need Kohli in the side as a batsman.

“We always need a batter of his caliber in the lineup,” Rohit added. “It’s unbelievable, it’s unreal to have a 50-plus average in the T20 format.” With his experience, he has undoubtedly helped India out of numerous difficult circumstances.

“So that level of quality and batsmanship is obviously essential, and he is still a team leader.” You don’t want to miss out on all of that, and you don’t want to overlook that kind of thing. His inclusion in the squad is critical going ahead, and it can only benefit our team.”
