SLC to allow double vaccinated spectators up to 50% stadium capacity: Lanka Premier League 2021

SLC is certain that, unlike last year’s version, they will be able to keep the bubble safe.
For the second edition of the Lanka Premier League, which begins on Sunday, the SLC has stated that spectators would be allowed to fill up to 50% of the stadium.

Fans visiting the stadium will need to be double-vaccinated, with at least two weeks passing since their second injection, according to Arjuna De Silva, the head of the SLC’s medical committee.

“We’ve had negotiations with the Ministry of Health, and they’ve agreed to give us 50% of the spectators,” Arjuna stated ahead of the competition during a press conference. “There is a new variety [Omicron], but it makes no difference because we always follow the health recommendations. Spectators who have been doubly vaccinated for at least two weeks are needed.”

Since the pandemic last year, the ongoing Test series between Sri Lanka and the West Indies is the first time spectators have been allowed into a stadium in Sri Lanka.

“Moving from place to venue could pose a challenge,” Arjuna remarked. “During the IPL, this was a concern, though it was mainly due to the fact that several teams had to fly to different stadiums. But we’re optimistic that we’ll be able to keep the bubble safe.”

Players will be testing every five days during the competition, according to Covid regulations. A player who is already in the nation must do a 48-hour PCR test and isolate himself for 24 hours before entering the bubble.

Foreign players and local players traveling in from overseas who have been double vaccinated (by an SL/WHO-recognize vaccine) will be need to show a negative PCR test 48 hours prior to arrival, as well as an on-arrival PCR. After that, they’ll have to stay in quarantine for three days.

Except for the quarantine period, will be extended to six days, most of the protocols will remain the same for non-vaccinated players. Before entering the bubble, they’ll have to pass a PCR and an antigen test.

SLC will also hire the ICC Anti-Corruption Unit, as well as anti-corruption officers from the Sri Lankan sports ministry, to oversee the competition

When asked if any anti-corruption violations had been reporting during the initial edition, Ashley responded, “There were no anti-corruption breaches records during the inaugural event.” “Last year, we were not informing of any approaches. However, this year’s competition will be officiated by their [ICC] anti-corruption unit as well as the ministry of sport’s anti-corruption unit.”

Despite the fact that the first season of LPL was mostly a success. The build-up to the second season has been fraught with difficulties. To prevent overlaps with other T20 competitions across the world, the tournament was postpone twice.

Three of the five franchises that competed in the first edition. Including the Jaffna Stallions, which won the first season, have been disbanded by the organizers. The franchises in Colombo and Dambulla have also been cancel.

Following the departure of the defending champions. The owners of the Stallions accused the league of mismanagement and a lack of transparency. A former owner of the Dambulla Giants made similar claims earlier this week.
