Alex Carey Century Trumped By Matt Renshaw As Queensland Slay South Australia

Alex Carey hammered a century for South Australia. Ashes prospect in a welcome return to batting form. Renshaw smashed 156 from 109 balls after Gurinder Sandhu’s hat-trick had restricted the home side.

But it wasn’t enough to prevent a six-wicket loss to Queensland in their one-day encounter at Adelaide Oval.

Combined with Henry Hunt (61) for a record-breaking 159-run opening stand, Queensland was bowled out for 274 by Gurinder Sandhu’s second career hat-trick.

Matt Renshaw, a member of Australia’s A team, led the Bulls’ run chase with a career-best unbroken 156 off 109 balls and was well supported by Max Bryant (68), who put up 177 for the fourth wicket.

Queensland has won two of their four one-day matches this season, while South Australia had a 1-3 record.

And was in the running to replace former captain Tim Paine as Australia’s Test gloveman at the Gabba next month.

He took his time getting going in his innings before exploding for his second half-century in just 30 balls, en route to his second one-day century of the season. He hit a magnificent slog-sweep six off Marnus Labuschagne, but was bowled by the part-time legspinner when attempting to cut a delivery that wasn’t quite as short as he had intended.

Sandhu concluded with 4 for 44 from nine overs, with Matt Kuhnemann also shining as South Australia’s final six wickets went in the space of just 15 balls.

Travis Head, like Carey, was hoping to impress national selectors. but his luck ran out on 29 when he was caught by Mark Steketee off Kuhnemann.

Queensland’s run chase got off to a poor start. And they were already in trouble when Test players Usman Khawaja and Labuschagne went down cheaply. Hunt’s powerful hit from a difficult angle knocked Labuschagne out in spectacular fashion.

Renshaw’s controlled knock, on the other hand, guided the Bulls to victory. His century came in 91 balls, with 15 fours and five sixes. And his third fifty came in 16 deliveries as he plundered Wes Agar.
