Alex Hales, an English cricketer, apologized on Friday for wearing blackface at a party in 2009, calling his actions “reckless and irresponsible.” Hales wrote on Instagram that he dressed up like US hip-hop superstar Tupac Shakur for a 2009 New Year’s Eve party because he “is, was, and always will be my favorite musician.”
He stated of the shot, which was published in the Sun:
“The topic was musicians, and since Tupac is, has been. And will always be my favorite singer, I dressed up as him. I recognize that this is extremely insulting, and I apologize for any harm this has undoubtedly caused.”
“Want to apologize for being so careless and thoughtless. And I want to apologize to the club for the shame it would have given them. I guess my twenties were full of blunders like that, rash decisions off the field that cost me. Disappointments from family, teammates. And friends, and the strong relationships I had at the time.”

Following the publishing of the photo, Hales’ club, Nottinghamshire. Stated it had “extended the scope” of its probe into his behavior. Following Rafiq’s testimony about Hales, it had “commenced the appropriate internal process.”
“Alex will be subject to the club’s standard disciplinary process. And has signaled his readiness to engage in the investigation,” the club said in a statement.
