AB De Villiers: After announcing his retirement from “all cricket,” former South African cricketer AB de Villiers gave an emotional statement in which he thanked all of his supporters, critics, and especially his IPL side RCB for their role in his career.
AB de Villiers, a former South African captain, took to Instagram to send an emotional message to his followers via his former Indian Premier League (IPL) side Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Throughout the video, the RCB cricketer thanked everyone, including his critics, for transforming his life.
AB de Villiers said:
”I’m going to make major news today, a big announcement that I’m done with all formats and all cricket wherever. My face is bright with a smile. I believe I am making the best option possible, but I am visibly heartbroken. Many feelings and recollections from my years of playing cricket are running through my mind. There are a lot of conflicting feelings.”
De Villiers indicated that his decision to retire was motivated by a desire to spend more time with his family.

“I’m going to be an RCBian for life. Every single person in the RCB set-up has become family to me. People come and go, but the spirit and the love we have for each other at RCB will always remain. I’ve become half Indian now and I’m proud of that.” – AB de Villiers spoke to us before he formally announced his retirement from cricket today.

The South African expressed gratitude to both his followers and critics for their unwavering support and criticism throughout his career.
According to the 37-year-old batter:
“It’s tough to express how much the fans and supporters of cricket throughout the world, and specifically of my sport, have meant to me; it’s been life-changing. And thank you so much to everyone who has critiqued me or simply enjoyed what I’ve done throughout my career.”
