Mahmudullah: Mushfiqur Rahim exclusion entirely team management’s decision

Mahmudullah: On Thursday (November 18), Bangladesh T20 captain Mahmudullah claimed he was unaware of Mushfiqur Rahim’s withdrawal from the three-match T20I series against Pakistan.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) decided to rest Mushfiqur Rahim for the T20I series against Pakistan, citing the need to focus on the four Tests scheduled after the T20Is – two Tests against Pakistan at home followed by a two-Test series against New Zealand as part of the ICC World Test Championship’s second cycle.

Mushfiqur urged selectors and team management to call a spade a spade, claiming he was dropped following a recent lean stretch in the shorter format.

Prior to the three T20Is against Pakistan, Mahmudullah adds a fresh twist to the story by asking the media to question the team management about his omission, which was surprising given that Mahmudullah is meant to be a part of the team management as the captain.

“It will be best if you ask the team management,” Mahmudullah replied when Mushfiqur’s exclusion was brought to his attention. “I’m not sure what Mushfiqur said and can’t comment till I see it. This decision (to exclude Mushfiqur from T20) is fully up to the team management. And I am not preparing to comment on it. All I can say is that Mushfiqur would be missing (in the series) ” he stated.

Following the ICC World T20 catastrophe. Mahmudullah also discussed his role in the team, both as a player and as a leader

“It’s entirely up to the team’s management or board of directors. To make that decision” (as far as captaincy is concerned). It doesn’t bother me too much. “If they think I’m good enough, I’ll keep going,” Mahmudullah remarked. “If I have to say anything about my position (as captain). I’ll have to say a lot of things, which I don’t want to do here.”

Mahmudullah also stated that he does not want to discuss Bangladesh’s poor performance at the ICC T20 World Cup
