Sheffield Shield match between New South Wales and Victoria, which was set to start on Friday at the SCG, has been postponed after Victoria batsman Will Sutherland returned a positive Covid-19 test result.
According to a statement released by Cricket Australia:
“Will Sutherland has produced a test result that requires additional study during normal COVID-19 testing. While this research and investigation take place, the Victorian team is currently self-isolating.”
A Sheffield Shield match between Queensland and Tasmania had to be cancel earlier in September after four positive cases were discovering in Queensland.
Following this development, the Tasmanian crew chose to return home to avoid being trapped behind a closing state border, which was the precaution taken when the cases in Australia began to rise.

Sheffield Shield: In a statement, Tasmania said:
“This isn’t a choice that was made lightly. While the situation in Queensland hasn’t prohibited the match from starting today, we’re taking a cautious and deliberate approach, and we believe it’s in our best interests to keep our players and staff at home while we have a greater grasp of the present situation. We’re excited to play the Queensland Bulls as soon as possible “
