Pakistan have hit rock bottom, they looked like club-level players: Sanjay Manjrekar. USA defeated Pakistan in the Super Over.
The United States of America (USA) pulled an upset by defeating Pakistan in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. The Babar Azam-led side was the favourites against the associate nation, but they never played like the big boys of cricket. Batting first, they lost three wickets in the powerplay and struggled in the remaining overs, scoring only 159 runs in the first innings.
The USA led the race for the majority of the time, but faltered near the conclusion as the match headed to Super Over. Mohammad Amir conceded 18 runs in the over, while the visitors scored 13 runs. With so, the United States secured a tremendous victory and climbed to first place in Group A. Meanwhile, Pakistan’s setback has put them in a tough spot. Former cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar says the Men in Green have reached rock bottom and praises the USA for their stunning victory over one of the tournament’s favourites.
“Winning this game at such a young age in international cricket is remarkable. One team, the United States, has reached the summit of Mount Everest, whereas Pakistan has reached rock bottom. I’ve never seen Pakistan do worse than this. This is more than just a defeat. The review, Mohammad Amir’s Super Over, and the misfields when pressure applied. It kills me to see this because when I played against Pakistan, they were world champions; they have now reached rock bottom,” Manjrekar report as saying by India Today.

Really lost respect for Pakistan: Manjrekar
Skipper Babar Azam scored 44 runs off 43 balls, which need to be investigated. His strike rate appears to be alarming, which may cause problems for the squad throughout the tournament. Meanwhile, the other hitters did not step up. Shadab Khan looked great, while Shaheen Shah Afridi hit hard near the end, helping the squad score 159 runs, which looked difficult at times.
Reflecting on this, Manjrekar remarked that the Pakistan cricketers resembled club-level players and that he had lost respect for them.
Over the years, there have been a few declines. The fact that Pakistan is upset is a tale unto itself. India is not listed among the upsets for the T20 World Cup 2024, not even once. Pakistan’s current cricket team played at a level befitting club players based on their performance. Because they believe that 150 a respectable score, their top-order hitters gave far too much respect, which is why Babar Azam play the way he did. And that’s when I truly stopped respecting Pakistan,” Manjkrekar said in closing.
