Mumbai Indians (MI) opener Rohit Sharma looked in top form as he got his team off to a flying start in Match 21 of the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024). After DC captain Rishabh Pant requested MI to bat first on a belter of a track at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. Rohit seize the opportunity, taking on DC bowlers from the start.
The 36-year-old got his innings going with back-to-back boundaries in the second over against Ishant Sharma and put his wide array of strokes on display as he sent the ball to all corners of the park. Rohit’s innings studded with six fours and three sixes. However, the highlight of his innings was his trademark pull shot.
The right-handed batter fulfilled the ambition of 20,000 young admirers who had gathered to watch him play by hitting Jhye Richardson for a maximum with his trademark pull shot on the second ball of the fourth over. He then flipped him for a maximum on his next delivery in the same direction.

Mumbai registered their first win of the season
Rohit was finally removed for 49 (27) after putting on an 80-run stand for the opening wicket with Ishan Kishan. Apart from him, Ishan Kishan (42 off 23), Hardik Pandya (39 off 33), Tim David (45* off 21), and Romario Shepherd (39* off 10) all contributed significantly as MI scored a massive total of 234/5 in 20 overs.
Axar Patel was DC’s standout bowler, finishing with 2/35 in four overs. In response, DC got off to a sluggish start, with opener David Warner (10 from 8) being removed cheaply. Prithvi Shaw (66 off 40) and Tristan Stubbs did their best to keep their team in the game, but they fell short of the mark, finishing at 205/8 in their allotted 20 overs.
