Zimbabwe Cricket to restructure after ICC qualification heartache. ZC did not qualify for the 2023 Men’s ODI World Cup despite hosting the qualification tournament in June of last year and the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup.
Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) has approved the whole report given by a Committee of Inquiry established to evaluate Zimbabwe’s World Cup qualification problems and assess the cricket administration system.

Zimbabwe failed to qualify for the 2023 Men’s ODI World Cup
Despite hosting the qualifying event in June of last year. They also failed to qualify for the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup, which will take place in the United States and the West Indies beginning on June 1. Notably, the World Cup qualifying failures forced head coach Dave Houghton to quit.
A statement from ZC announce that the board had “adopted the comprehensive report presented by a committee of inquiry that was established to probe Zimbabwe’s World Cup qualification failures as well as to review ZC’s cricket affairs structure.”
Mr Lloyd Mhishi chaired the three-member group. Which present its conclusions to ZC after gathering feedback from internal and external stakeholders. The Board resolved to adopt the report in its entirety and to put the committee’s recommendations into effect immediately.
The report’s key points include restructuring ZC’s Cricket Affairs Department and its personnel. Restructuring ZC’s domestic and development pathways. Advertising for head coach positions for the Zimbabwe Senior Men’s national team and the Zimbabwe Under-19 Men’s national team, restructuring the coaching setup at the first-class level. Establishing a National Academy, and establishing indoor training facilities in all five first-class provinces.
Within four weeks, management was expected to consider all Mhishi Committee recommendations and present an action plan to the board. During the meeting, the board also confirmed the appointment of Walter Chawaguta. A former Zimbabwe cricketer and men’s team coach, as senior head coach of the Zimbabwe Senior Women’s National Team. The board also accepted Prosper Utseya’s resignation as head coach of Zimbabwe’s Under-19 Men’s National Team.
