Tania Mallick is dissatisfied as PCB fails to keep women’s T20 league commitments. “The impression I got was they did not feel they were in a position to make such big financial decisions,” said Mallick.
The PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) has reversed a vow made almost three years ago to develop a women’s T20 competition. To make matters worse, the board has halted exhibition matches on the eve of the ninth season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
It is worth mentioning that three exhibition matches were held in 2023. Involving players from South Africa, England, and New Zealand, but they are not schedule for 2024.
Tania Mallick, head of the PCB women’s wing, stated that the management committee lead by Zaka Ashraf refused to sponsor a women’s T20 league.
“The sense I got was that they did not believe they were in a position to make such significant financial judgments. We were told that the next committee and administration would do this, but ‘we don’t want to’. The issue is not with our management or the PCB’s finance officers. “The interim management committee was unwilling to commit,” Mallick told ESPNcricinfo.
“I’m not unhappy with my management since everyone agrees that we need a league. Even the PSL department had everything set out, but it was scrap at the last minute. This was towards the conclusion of the Zaka period. Its disappointing for all of us, and I told the girls that several times. ” She added.

Hopefully we can plan for a longer period: Mallick
Furthermore, Mallick expressed her optimism for a better future for women’s cricket in Pakistan. Following Mohsin Naqvi’s election as PCB chairman for a three-year term earlier this week. Mallick expressed confidence that they will be able to plan for a longer period.
“With the new chairman coming in hopefully we can plan for a longer period, Higher management have told us repeatedly that it’s not that we are not supporting it, we definitely support it but as soon as we have firmer footing, it will be in place,” Mallick went on to say.
