The Mumbai Indians made an unexpected move ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 auction by drafting Hardik Pandya from the Gujarat Titans. The Baroda all-rounder was subsequently name captain of the team, succeeding Rohit Sharma, who led Mumbai to five IPL titles. This move drew widespread anger from Rohit supporters who believe that the stalwart’s efforts to the franchise were devalued.
Hardik quit the Mumbai Indians ahead of IPL 2022 to join the Titans in their first season in the cash-rich competition. He guided them to the title in 2022, and last year, the club finished second after losing to the Chennai Super Kings in the final. Mohammed Shami was an important part of the Titans’ success in both seasons, establishing himself as Hardik’s primary bowler.
Shami, who recently received the coveted Arjuna Award, ask about Hardik’s departure from the Titans and the potential impact it could have. The 33-year-old stated that it does not matter if players swap organizations because no one is signed for a lifetime.
“Kissi ke kahin jane se koi fark nahi padta. (No one is concerned about Hardik Pandya quitting the franchise). Hardik wanted to go, and he did. He did well as a captain, as Gujarat advanced to the final twice and won the title once. “He wasn’t bound to Gujarat for life. ” Shami remark in an interview with Sports24.

The best wicket-taker in the ODI World Cup 2023 stated that Shubman Gill, who has been announced as Gujarat’s new captain for the IPL 2024, will gain experience and may move elsewhere. Shami highlighted that leaving one franchise and joining another is extremely common in the sport.
“Shubman Gill will gain experience and may eventually play for another franchise. “You can’t stop anyone; it’s part of the game,” he added.
Shami is currently recovering from an ankle injury. He miss the Test series against South Africa and has not been pick to the squad for the first two home Tests against England. The veteran hopes to be healthy for the next three Tests of the five-match series.
