Mitchell Starc will be of massive help to our domestic bowlers: Gautam Gambhir. “It’s not just about his bowling, but also about leading the attack and assisting everyone around him.” “Someone has to pay for it,” Gambhir remarked of Starc.
Gautam Gambhir, who just returned to Kolkata Knight Riders as a mentor, spoke exclusively to JioCinema about the money paid by KKR on Mitchell Starc at the IPL 2024 Auction and the team’s bowling lineup.

On Mitchell Starc’s record INR 24.75 crore price tag
There is no mistake about it: he has the X-factor. Someone who can bowl with the new ball, bowl in the death overs, and, perhaps most significantly, lead the attack. He’ll be a huge help to our two domestic bowlers because they’re both really skilled and require someone to help them out in the middle, and Starc covers both bases. It’s not just about his bowling, but also about leading the attack and assisting everyone around him. As a result, someone will have to pay for it.
On KKR’s bowling line up
Our bowling lineup is really deep. We’ve always needed a better bowling assault, and now we have it with Mujeeb (Ur Rahman), Gus (Atkinson), Sunil (Narine), Varun (Chakravarthy), and Mitchell Starc, as well as two Indian seamers and Chetan Sakariya. We now have enough alternatives to play various combos while keeping the venue in mind. For me, having a great bowling lineup vs a solid batting lineup has always been more important.
On coming back to KKR
KKR is an emotion for me, not a team. The reason is the amount of love I have received from the people of Kolkata over the seven years that I have led them, hopefully with a lot of honesty. We’re hoping to recreate the same memories we had in 2012 and 2014. There is no assurance that we will prevail, but there is one certainty: we will fight to the last drop of our blood.
