Harbhajan Singh criticizes the Ahmedabad pitch following India’s devastating defeat in the World Cup final. Team India chose a slow pitch.
Team India suffered a heartbreaking six-wicket defeat to Australia in the final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. T he Pat Cummins-led team maintained their dominance in international cricket and secured their sixth title. India were bowled out for 240 in their allotted 50 overs after being sent in to bat first. In response, Australia easily chased down the goal in 43 overs thanks to a stunning century from Travis Head (137 off 120).

The former off-spinner believes that a typical flat surface would have benefited India more than the sluggish pitch utilized in the summit showdown.
“I believe it was the type of pitch that was on the slower side.” The pitch was drier than normal. You know, I would have liked to see a pitch with a lot of high scores, like 300 or higher. That kind of pitch would have aided India more than this kind of pitch, where you draw your opponent into the game. ” Harbhajan stated on India Today.
The 2011 World Cup champion also claimed that a better pitch would have help the Indian batsmen play better than they did.
“You remember where your batters were in such excellent shape? They looked amazing during the event and were really proud of themselves. The manner in which they play cricket. “I believe that a slightly better pitch would have helped them perform better than what happened,” Harbhajan stated.

Indian batters failed to score on the slow wicket
Notably, the Men in Blue lost three wickets in the first 11 overs, after which KL Rahul (66 off 107). Suryakumar Yadav (18 off 28), and Ravindra Jadeja (9 off 22) struggled to get going. India forced to settle with a lower-than-par score in the first innings.
Meanwhile, India’s terrible trend in ICC competitions since 2014 continued as they once again failed to win the trophy despite qualifying for the knockout rounds. The Men in Blue have qualified for the knockouts in nine of the past 10 ICC competitions but have yet to win a title.
