The action has intensified in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 as the tournament moves into the knockout stages. India and New Zealand will lock horns in the first semi final on Wednesday, November 15 in Mumbai. While Australia and South Africa will take on each other in the second semi final on November 16 in Kolkata.
Ahead of the two epic clashes, legendary cricketers Ravi Shastri and Ricky Ponting shared their views on the upcoming big games in the cricketing extravaganza. Shastri revealed his two ODI World Cup 2023 finalists for the event and back India and Australia to go against each other in the summit clash on November 19 in Ahmedabad.
“During India’s first game of the tournament on October 8. I said that this is the dress rehearsal for the final. ” “I believe these two sides will clash in the finals as well. ” Shastri remark at the ICC Quiz Night hosted at Glocal Junction in Mumbai.
Meanwhile, famous Australian captain Ricky Ponting has indicated that the toss will be key in the second semi-final between Australia and South Africa at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens.
“The toss will be important in the second semi-final. As we saw in the game between India and South Africa, where the pitch slowed down as the game progressed. ” As a result, the side batting first would have an edge, and the toss will be vital. ” Ponting explained.

India eager to end knockout jinx against the Kiwis
Later in the tournament, the duo was asked to select one player from India and New Zealand combined line-ups for respective teams. While Ponting chose India’s standout batter Virat Kohli, Shastri chose Indian skipper Rohit Sharma for his astute captaincy thus far in the tournament and his powerful hitting at the top.
Meanwhile, India will attempt to break their knockout curse in the first semi-final. As they have failed to win an ICC trophy despite qualifying for the knockout rounds of seven of the past eight ICC competitions.
